In 1997 I visited the Caoyangwan village located at Hengshan county in northern Shaanxi outside the Great Wall. It is located on top of a tableland where there is some flat ground. It has a primary school, K-6, serving 240 students. There are 7 teachers, each in charge of a grade.
The remnant of the Great Wall built during the Qin dynasty some 2000 years ago, and rebuilt during the Ming dynasty around 500 years ago, can still be seen near the village.
