Suspended River
The top picture gives a schematic view of the elevation
of the river to the surrounding land near Kaifeng.
The bottom picture is an aerial view of the dike section
near Kaifeng. The inundated section to the right of
the dike is below the river level. The ancient city of
Kaifeng is buried under 9 m of
river sediment.
