Terrace field is being added to create arable land. Terracing also controls erosion and reduces river sediment. The top picture shows some of the newly-built terrace fields over the loess plateau. These are the expensive machine-built fields with wide level strips and tall ridges. The bottom picture shows an aerial view of the terrace fields on loess mounds yielding a good harvest.
