Terrace field is being added to create arable land.
Terracing also controls erosion and reduces river sediment.
The top picture shows some of the newly-built
terrace fields over the loess plateau. These are the
expensive machine-built fields with wide level strips
and tall ridges. The bottom picture shows an aerial view of
the terrace fields on loess mounds yielding a good harvest.
