A recently completed hydroelectric complex
in the upper reaches of Yellow River is
the Liujiaxia Gorge project, which provides
the much needed electric power for the industrial city
Lanzhou located in a central position of the nation
(comparable to St. Louis, Mo).
The top picture shows a view of the Liujiaxia Gorge,
downstream from the dam -- its
filled reservoir
turning mountain ridges into islands.
Further downstream is the Yanguoxia Gorge
hydroelectric complex as shown
in the next picture.
Liujiaxia Gorge

There are currently five major hydropower plants
in the main channel in the upper reaches,
and they are Longyangxia Gorge,
Lijiaxia Gorge, Yanguoxia Gorge,
