A recently completed hydroelectric complex in the upper reaches of Yellow River is the Liujiaxia Gorge project, which provides the much needed electric power for the industrial city Lanzhou located in a central position of the nation (comparable to St. Louis, Mo). The top picture shows a view of the Liujiaxia Gorge, downstream from the dam -- its filled reservoir turning mountain ridges into islands. Further downstream is the Yanguoxia Gorge hydroelectric complex as shown in the next picture.
