黄河中游起于 内蒙古的 河口镇, 河水成黄色.
The river turns muddy once it enters
the middle reaches which drain the loess plateau.
The top picture shows the river at Tuoketuo 托克托
in Inner Mongolia (河口镇附近), which marks the beginning of
the middle reaches. The river picks up more and more
of the sediment as it flows down the gorge section
between Shanxi 山西 and Shaanxi 陕西 provinces.
The sediment load is at its peak during flood flow,
as shown in the bottom picture, while the river is
also turning violent.
