The annual precipitation along the middle reaches
of the river is about 400 mm, on average,
but in a wet year it can be as high as 700 mm,
while in a dry year only 50 mm.
The top picture shows villagers waiting
in line for their water ration.
The bottom picture reminds us the plight
of the farmers during a drought.
