As Yellow River leaves the desert region
in Inner Mongolia 内蒙古, it enters the loess plateau
of soil deposits which are easily erodible.
Over 90% of Yellow River's sediment enters the river from
tributaries in the middle reaches.

of the river between Shanxi province 山西省 (to the right of the river)
and Shaanxi province 陕西省 (to the left of the picture).
