The Yellow River Panorama


In 1997, celebrating the 50th anniversary of its founding, the Yellow River Conservancy Commission published a commemorative volume, entitled Wind Over Yellow River, to recall the ageless charm of the river, its magnificence that inspires generations through the centuries, to reflect on the gift of its bounty, the precious water that has nourished a civilization ever since its infancy, and to document the many changes in the recent time.

It is a handsomely published volume, beautifully illustrated, a fine tribute to the devoted efforts in managing the river in the last half century, when the river was kept from flooding, even though the riverbed was already over 10 m above the surrounding plain. We compose here a panoramic display of the river basin with many scenes taken from this volume, as well as those from other sources.
