Summer Chinese Language and Culture Program
(The following announcement is taken from NACA Newsletter, No. 6, January
15, 1985)
NACA has the priviledge of administering the Summer Chinese Language and
Culture Program offered by the Beijing University for the children of Chinese-American
families. The program was offered for the first time in the summer of 1984.
It provides opportunity for these children to improve their knowledge in
the Chinese language and culture in a native environment at relatively low
expense.
The 1985 program will run from June 30 to August 8 with 4 weeks of Chinese
language training at the Beijing University campus including numerous visits
to local sites of interest, while the last 12 days will be reserved for
a guided tour of the country visiting Loyang, Xian, Shanghai, Suzhou and
Hangzhou.
Participants are limited to children of Chinese-American families, age 18
or over (or students who are high school juniors or above) with valid passports.
A fee, which includes round trip airfare (by CAAC), tuition, room and board,
and travel accommodations, of approximately $2000 per student (if leaving
from New York, or roughly $100 less if leaving from the West Coast) must
be prepaid before departure.
