Chinn Ho and Chen Ning Yang are recipients of the NACA Distinguished
Achievement Award
(The following article is taken from NACA Newsletter No. 4, March 7,
1983)
On October 23, 1982, NACA bestowed its highest honor, the NACA Distinguished
Achievement Award, to two of the most respected Chinese Americans of our
time, Mr. Chinn Ho, Chairman of the Capital Investment of Hawaii, and Professor
Chen Ning Yang of the State University of New York at Stony Brook and the
past president of NACA.
Mr. Chinn Ho who came from Hawaii to receive the award is a great benefector
to many of the Chinese-American programs. During the NACA National Convention
which preceded the award ceremongy, Mr. Ho addressed the participants and
gave them a rare treat by telling them his life story from the pre-WWII
days to the present. He rose to great heights in the financial world and
his comany became one of the largest real-estate developers in Hawaii mainly
through his own effort and diligence. It is a piece of history we can take
to heart. It was indeed an honor for NACA to have Mr. Ho to participate
in this convention and be the recipient of the award.
Professor Chen Ning Yang is well-known to all
NACA members. Many of us joined NACA in response to the call of Professor
Yang, and worked towards the NACA goals under his leadership. To many of
the Chinese Americans, Professor Yang is known because he and Professor
T. D. Lee were the first Chinese Americans to win the Nobel prize in physics
in 1957. This achievement had a great impact on the Chinese-American community.
Because of it, many were greatly motivated to strife for high goals in life.
NACA takes great pride in having these two outstanding recipients to set
the standards for its Distinguished Achievement Award. It is NACA's hope
that many more deserving Chinese Americans will be so recognized and honored
in the future.
