Chinese people attribute five mountains to be sacred, largely because they hold commanding elevations above surrounding lands. They are located in the east, west, north, south, and central positions of the historic Chinese empire. The Taishan mountain is the Eastern Sacred Mountain, while Songshan mountain is the Central Sacred Mountain.
