This region which we encountered on the way to Zhungerqi in Inner Mongolia after we crossed the Yellow River at Hequ had an annual erosion rate of 60,000 tons per sq km, as we were told. I believe it is located in the Huangfuchuan watershed, which is discussed above. The soil grain is very coarse and not easily transported by water. Erosion here contributes greatly to sediment accumulation in the rivers.
