Very little harvest can be derived from these hill slopes, but extensive cultivation of slopes causes erosion and puts the stability of the slope at risk.

In Huanxian, Gansu, we see many marginally terraced hill slopes. The terracing is not flat enough to prevent erosion during a heavy rainstorm.
