The Third Cross-Strait Conference

Post-conference Tour to Mingsha Dunes and the Crescent Moon Spring

The sand dunes at Mingsha Dunes were quite formidable, and the challenge was to climb up to the top.

Several of us took up the challenge. By the time we reached the top it was already dark (left photo). Among the challengers was Prof. Shih Jia-Chang of the National Taiwan University. Over 70 years old, Prof. Shih was still tough as a nail. The author took the photo (on the right) with Prof. Shih, after descending from the dune and returning to the base.

The Crescent Moon Spring was hidden behind the dune, and to get there one could take a camel ride. Since each camel carried just one person, there were a large number of camels waiting for customers.
